The Record Shop was established in 1984 and is an "all categories" music store ranging from punk to high baroque classical. However, it has always carried an unnaturally large stock of folk & roots music, reflecting the tastes of owner Julian Wild. This interest led to the launch of englishfolkmusic.net during September 2000 in an effort to promote folk music more widely and expand the service.

Julian has been in record retail since 1974, plays in the English Country Dance band RED SHED and presented a weekly folk radio programme for ten years during the 70's & 80's.

The Record Shop is a supplier to Library Services and is happy to arrange special terms on such institutional supplies.

Services available.

The catalogue is mostly English folk, the product of a deep trawl through all available catalogues and tilted heavily in the "trad" direction. In addition is a list of classic Irish & Scottish CDs. The prices are a good compromise between your getting a good deal and me paying the rent.

Apart from the lists we can supply anything of any kind of music currently available in the UK- the Allow Me button is the one to use here. We'll come back with price and availability information.

For classical buyers, unless a particular recording is requested, we shall recommend the excellent NAXOS label at the cost of £4.99 per disc. Very good value.

For those unhappy with ordering on-line; do feel free to ring the shop and talk with us. Opening hours are 9.30-5.00 Monday to Saturday.
