Westcountry Rivers Series
Westcountry rivers are our lifeblood. They are part of the lives
of so many people, for work or pleasure, and have carved
the countryside to the form it is today; ever changing, ever
dramatic and essential to our existence.
The content of the series is the result of advice and assistance
of many experts and the secret views of riparian owners who have
their own special corners.
I began painting this special series in the summer of 2001;
not the best time for wandering along river banks in Devon! There
were many places I just could not visit, which is why the collection
is currently a little lop-sided. But this did not lessen my appetite.
In a year I have visited and painted some twelve rivers, with
a plan for the remainder of 2002 to incorporate many new ones.
Now that fishermen and country-lovers have seen my efforts I
know more clearly what they are looking for, at the same time
I retain my own views and present my personal interpretation
of these glorious venues.
