Devon produces some of the best food in Europe, and we have fine vineyards too. Many of our products are now grown organically, and our farms produce high quality meat and game enjoyed worldwide. From local cheeses to home grown beef, organic vegetables to home made cakes, you can find it all in our high street shops and farmers market.
Locally grown organic vegetables are available in many places. You can buy them in the High Street shops and also the Farmers Market, or you can enjoy a trip into our glorious Devon countryside and buy direct from one of the many farm shops in our area.

Cheese
In the southwest, we probably have more individual varieties of cheese than any other area in the country.
Non-pasteurised cheese, full fat cheese, hard cheeses, soft cheeses, goat's cheese, sheep's cheese, cheese with herbs... Around Crediton there are several major on-farm dairies and creameries which you can visit.

Home Produced Meat
Devon farms are traditionally renowned for rearing top quality beef and lamb, and the fertile red soils of the vale of Crediton produce the best grass to rear the livestock.
Our butchers. and many of the restaurants and inns, actively promote locally sourced beef, lamb and pork, reared on Devon farms, because they know it’s the best.

The Farmers Market
Crediton holds a Farmers Market on the first Saturday of each month. This is becoming so popular that people are travelling from miles around to attend them. In 2004 it is hoped to extend these and to increase the frequency to meet the local and seasonal demands. They supply a wide range of organic vegetables, meats, preserves, cheese and other locally produced foods together with local crafts. In between, our High Street shops regularly provide a great variety of local and regionally produced foods.
