Crediton is a major market town in Mid Devon with a vigorous business community incorporating the best aspects of rural enterprises with that latest in high tech industries. Crediton has two main industrial parks at Lords Meadow and at Fordton, together with an additional small collection of units at Westward Business Park. Just look at some of the nationally and internationally renowned industries which have developed in Crediton:
Many of the surrounding towns and villages also have thriving business communities. These include Lapford, Copplestone and North Tawton and Bow, together with Cheriton Bishop, Tedburn St Mary, Newton St cyres, Thorveton, Cheriton Fitzpaine, Sandford, Morchard Bishop, and Coldridge. Changes to the adjacent road infrastrucure over the past decade has meant that much of the unwanted through traffic to North Devon and Cornwall has been diverted, leaving our business sites still pleasantly situated but now more accessible. The Crediton area has much to offer in terms of its proximity to Exeter. Its pleasant location coupled with good shools shops, housing and communications provides a source for a well educated, skilled work force. In recent years Crediton has independently embarked upon several new initiatives to promote and develop commerce within the area, and currently are investing in a Town Manager to continue to raise the profile of Crediton businesses within the South West and in Devon in particular. The Crediton Area was given priority status with regard to the government's Market and Coastal Towns Initiative (MCTi). This provided for forward planning for the area and helped several recent projects within the town and local villages. Crediton has a strong and vigorous Chamber of Commerce composed of traders, professionals, industrialists and local councillors and hold regular meetings. The Chamber has provided sponsorship and led the way for many town-related projects, such as the Christmas lighting and decorations, Floral decorations and flags and "Christmas Cracker" a Town Manager and Crediton Area Marketing and Management(CAMM). Crediton businessmen also play major roles within the Mid Devon Business Association, and further afield in Devon and Westcountry business organisations. Some of Crediton's most recent projects and enterprises have been the appointment of a Town Manager, the refurbishment of the Old Town Hall, a regular monthly Farmers' Market, the development and completion of a new Town Square and the installation of new CCTV cameras in the High Street and Lords Meadow Industrial Estate.
